LANGPORT CROSS (Kelway, 1929) - Single - Rose. Clear rose turning to lavender, with a very large tassel of narrow, creamy petals. Bulletin 38.

LANGPORT QUEEN (Kelway) - Double - Pink - M.

LANGPORT TRIUMPH (Kelway) - Double - Pink - M.

LA NUIT (Shaylor, 1918) - Single - Red - Midseason.

LA PERLE (Crousse, 1886) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Medium height. Spicy fragrance. Large, globular shape, with light old-rose-pink guards and collar, and a slightly darker center prominently flaked with red. Whole flower of a distinctly lavender tone; floriferous. Good stems and foliage. Much confused with a false white variety which has a high, broad crown.

LA PINJA (Kelsey, 1937) - Jap. - Pink - Midseason. Large pink Japanese type. Staminodes yellow tipped. A very pleasing and interesting variety. List in Bulletin 109.

LARGO (Vories, 1929) - Jap. - Pink - Late Midseason. Very soft medium pink guards. Yellow staminodes. Wild's 1952 catalog: Large and rounded soft pink guards with white staminodes suffused pink and tipped and edged yellow. Carpels tipped pink. Undoubtedly one of the finest Japs we have. Excellent stems and plant. Midseason. List in Bulletin 91.

LA ROSIERE (Crousse, 1888) - Semi-Double - White - Midseason. Medium height. Fragrance not notable. Medium size. Several rows of long, pointed, white petals symmetrically arranged around a central cluster of golden yellow stamens. Very free-flowering; stems wiry. Foliage small. Very striking. M.

LA SALLE (Auten, 1931) - Single - Red - Early. Medium height. Very brilliant medium dark red single, stiff stems. Bulletin 47.

LASSIE (Glasscock-Falk, 1955) - Single - Pink - Early - Hybrid. Medium height. Parentage unknown. Hybrid seedling. Bulletin 138.

LAST ROSE (Sass, 1930) - Double - Pink - Late. It is one of the latest to bloom in the garden, carrying the blooming season several days beyond normal. Fully double. Bulletin 43.

LA SUBLIME (Pannentier, 1850) - Double - Crimson - DISCARDED - M.

LATE FESTIVA (Franklin, 1942) - Double - White - Late. List in Bulletin 91.

LA TENDRESSE (Crousse, 1896) - Double - White - Midseason. Tall. Fairly fragrant. Large. Almost white, with a slight lavender tone and a definitely creamy center, edged and flaked crimson, outer petals often striped red. Very free-flowering; stiff stems. Good foliage. Handsome lacy flowers which are borne in clusters. Frequently the buds open sideways or do not open at all, so that it cannot be classed as a dependable variety. M.

LATE WINDFLOWER (Saunders, 1939) - Single - White - Hybrid. This is almost exactly like Early Windflower except that Late Windflower blooms about a week later than the other. The plants are graceful and unusual. The flowers, like white anemones, are slightly nodding and are borne on tall stems. The foliage is forn like and handsome. They set no seed. Beresowskyi x Emodi. (Spelled Beresowski in Bulletin.) List in Bulletin 129. Saunders catalog.

LA TULIPE (Calot, 1872) - Double - Flesh-Pink - Early Midseason. Tall. Large. Outer petals very large and smooth; clear light-flesh-pink, with creamy center frequently streaked with crimson like the tulip. Pride of Inglescombe. Vigorous growth, with strong stems and good foliage. Frequently the striped are very prominent on the bud or partially open flower, but in some seasons they may be lacking. Rather scant petalage, but is too high-built to be called a semi-double type. It has extraordinary finish and beauty in the guard petals, and is a very attractiv flower. M.

LAURA (Terry) - Single - Pink - M.

LAURA DESSERT (Dessert, 1913) - Double (Anemone) Pink to White. Early Midseason. Medium height. Moderate fragrance. Medium size. Guards pale pink in bud, opening cream or pale lemon, becoming white; center a flat, compact tuft of narrow petaloids widest at tips, deep cream in depths, paling outward, giving a light lemon-yellow effect; carpels yellow with light tips and yellowish base. Floriferous; good stems and foliage. M.

LAURA ELLEN (Kelsey, 1936) - Double - Light Rose - Early Midseason. Dwarf. Informal double. 8" blooms. Rather dwarf grower. Good stems. Much the color of Judge Berry but a shade darker. More dwarf growing and stronger. Very large flowers. List in Bulletin 109.

LAURA KELSEY (Kelsey, 1941) - Formerly named MYRNA HESS. Double - White. Very large blush white double of wonderful substance and charming petal formation. Blooms held erect by strong stems that defy wind and driving rain. Buds, sharply pointed, resemble huge rose buds. A perfect combination of large beautiful bloom, strong plants and faultless stems. A profuse bloomer without a fault. Bulletin 80, List in 109.

LAURA MAGNUSON (Saunders, 1941) - Semi-Double - Rose - Late - Hybrid. Large cup-shaped clear bright rose. Late for this strain. Albiflora x lobata. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 129.

LAURA MARCHES (Smith-Krekler, 1954) - Single - Deep pink or light red. Late midseason. Medium height. Erect. Guards unfading deep wine pink or light red. Carpels light green, tipped white. Small center of golden stamens. Bulletin 133.

LAURA NUNN (Little) - Double - Pink - Midseason, late. Medium height. Delightfully fragrant. This is a light flesh-pink with long petals. Flowers are large. Good stems. Comes into bloom late midseason. Brand's 1955 catalog.

LAURA PLEAS (Pleas) - Double - Carmine-Rose - M.

LAURA TREMAN (Nicholls, 1943) - Double - Blush - Midseason. Medium height. Large blush white with fine form. List in Bulletin 91.

LAURA VORIES (Vories, 1924) - Double - White - Late Midseason. Mild fragrance. Large. Large, undulated guard petals surrounding a low, globular center of fine rose-bud form, which opens to disclose stamens in the depths; white with blush-pink center, thread-like crimson edge on some of the central petals, and a golden white suffusion in the collar. Good habit; splendid stems. M.
