SHAGGY DOG (Roy G. Klehm), Klehm Nursery, June, 1995. Seedling #KR47-20. White with raspberry streaking lactiflora. Good substance, shaggy white with deep raspberry streaking—buds are even streaked! 31/2"-4" wide flower, good foliage, strong stem strength, 30" in height, blooms mid-season. Has pollen, and fragrant. 0-3 buds per stem. Bulletin #295.
SINGING PINK (unknown from Goldsmith collection). Seedling #7-A, semi-double, herbaceous hybrid. Parentage and first year bloomed, unknown. Bright fuchsia pink semi-double wdth blooms 33/4". Glows in the garden on upright, strong 34-36" stems. Blooms midseason, takes time to become established, then a good amount of bloom. Good vigor and deep green foliage. Introduced by Smetana, A & D Nursery, Snohomish, Washington 98290, July 25, 1994. Colored slide on file. Bulletin #292.
SNOW PRINCESS (Roy Klehm), Feb. 9, 1990. Seedling #121R. Parentage, 933H x Bowl of Cream. First bloomed 1969. Dainty semi-double white with smooth multiple rows of guard petals. Good green foliage, 39 inches in height, with good stem strength. Reliable and fragrant. No seeds, good substance. Pollen and stamens. Bulletin #274.
SNOW SWAN (Roy G. Klehm), August 14, 1987. Seedling Number 130d. Ivory white single lactiflora, good clean foliage, 38" in height. Large rounded, smooth guard petals. Good substance with pollen and stamens. Bulletin #264.
SOFT SALMON JOY (Roy G. Klehm:), Klehm Nursery, June, 1995. Seedling #KR47-35. Salmon pink, single Lactiflora. Good substance, 5"-51/2" wide bloom. Slightly fragrant, good foliage. Double row smooth rounded guards of soft clear salmon pink. 0-3 side buds. Stem strength, good, height 33", a vigorous plant. Blooms mid-season, pollen. Buffetin #295.
SOFT TOUCH (Don Hollingsworth, Maryville, Missouri), June 30, 1996. Seedling #1649. Parentage, #57 Paeonia Peregrina x Miss America. Semi-double hybrid. First bloomed 1982 or before. Deep coral pink, both guard and inner petals (RHS 47B-54A). Loosely formed, usually a few stamens, good substance, good amount of bloom, reliable, one bud per stem. Stems are strong, erect, medium height 34 inches, mid-season bloom, deep avocado green leaflets, long, narrow irregularly notched at the ends.
SONATA (Harold Copeland—now deceased early 1970's, Chatham, Massachusetts). Parentage, Tamate-Boku and Isani-Gidui. Not certain which was the seed or which was the pollen parent. First bloomed in the late 1950's. Japanese type with buds opening to blush pink and gradually paling to almost white. Most reliable with good substance, strong stems holding up in wet and windy conditions. Outstanding vigor, blooms in mid-season. Foliage complements the delicate color.
