BOREAS (North Wind) (D-311) Nassos Daphnis, Oct. 17,1977. First bloomed 1974. Parentage. Generation - F2; Fl self pollinated. Very dark burgundy red, semi-double. Petals are ruffled, turning in and out in different directions as though a strong wind is blowing with great force. Looks and feels as though made of velvet. Reliable, has some pollen, seeds likely. Fragrant. Good stem strength. Foliage soft. Bulletin #224.

BOREAS Boreas forms a very large spreading bush with masses of burgundy red semi double flowers, with petals that are slightly ruffled. Used in conjunction with soft pinks, it makes a wonderful sight.

Semi-double blossoms of very dark rich burgundy. Each ruffled petal turns in a different direction lending to graceful, tousled appearance. Flowers held well above the foliage.

Petals are lightly ruffled, turning in and out in different directions as though a strong wind is blowing with great force. Looks and feels as though made of velvet. Pink stigmas, red stamens and medium red sheath. Plants are extremely fast robust growers. The long stems can be winter killed in Wisconsin, but always regrow to bloom in the spring. Plants become large over time and have excellent large deep green foliage. Boreas is a very upright grower that produces many shoots and can be used as a foundation shrub.
