White Flowers

First in this group are shown pure white flowers. They are followed by white flowers with coloured sheaths, by flowers with flares at the base of the petals and by those flushed with pale pink at the base. Finally come white flowers with pale brownish-yellow shading. These last mentioned varieties were prized for a long time before bright yellow hybrid peonies became available.


Hakuojishi

Pure white. One or two petaloids sometimes stand amongst the stamens. Large size. Sheath white and globular. Midseason. Tall. Vigorous.

Godaishu

Pure white. No flares. Large size. Sheath white and globular. Midseason. Vigorous.

Ikuhomon

Waved petals. Large size. White sheath with exposed green ovaries. Late Midseason. Long leafstalks. Sparse foliage.


Tamasudare

Large size. Stigmas and sheath white. Late midseason. Vigorous.


Yukizasa

Large size. Sheath white and globular. Fewer stamens than others. Late midseason. Tall.


Shimane Tamasudare

Large size. Stigmas and sheath white. Fewer stamens than Tumasudare. Late midscason. Vigorous.

Toseihaku

Medium size. Sheath white and globular. Late midseason. Broad leaflets

Hakugan

Large size. Stigmas and sheath white. Stamens not numerous. Late midseason. Long annual growth with long stems which do not hold the flower upright.


Koshino-yuki

On first opening the base of the flower is faintly flushed pink. Large size. Green exposed ovaries. Late midseason. Vigorous.

Hakushin

Large size. Stigmas and sheath white. Not tall but vigorous


Choseihaku

Waved petals. Medium size. Stamens not numerous. Midseason. Broad leaflets.

Shimane Renkaku

Medium size. Sheath white and globular. Stamens not numerous Midseason. Small plant with short annual growth.

Niigata Renkaku

Medium size. Stigmas and sheath white. Midseason. Most small outer petals pale green. Tips of leaflets appear rounded.


Shirotae

Waved petals. Medium size. Late midseason. Rather tall.

Furomon

Large size. White globular sheath. Base of filaments flushed pink. Midseason. Leafstalks long making foliage appear sparse.

Setsugekka

Small size. White globular sheath. Midseason. Small plant.

Hakubanryu

Flowers vary from semidouble in full double. Inner petals crinkled and asymmetrical (Shishizaki). Medium size. Lale midseason. Leaflets broad and pendulous. Vigorous.

Okinajishi

Inner petals crinkled but the distinctive feature of "Shishizaki" (asymmetry) is not noticeable. Medium size. Late midseason Leaflets large and pendulous.

Haku-unryu

Large size. Full double with underdeveloped pistil. Late. Strong stems hold the flowers erect. Tall.

Fuso-tsukasa

Large size. Full double with underdeveloped pistil. Late midseason. Leaflets large but item sparse because of long leafstalks.

Hakucho

Large size. Stigmas and base of filaments pale pink. Midseason. Leaflets waved. Vigorous.

Fujino-mine

Two or three petaloids amongst the stamens (Shishizaki). Medium size. Exposed green ovaries. Stigmas and of filaments pale pink. Midseason.


Oborozuki

Large size. Exposed green ovaries. Stigmas and base of filaments pale reddish purple. Midseason.

Giant size. Stigmas and base of filaments pale pink. Late midseason. Long yearly growth gives a sparse effect. Needs support. Vigorous

Kamikaze

Giant size. Frilled edges of petals. Stigmas and base of filaments pale pink. Late midseason


Gabisan

Large size. Stigmas and sheath light purplish red. Late midseason. Long leafstalks and sparse foliage. Tall and vigorous.

Komachijiro

Milky white, with pale pink base of flower when first open Cup-shaped flower. Small size. Sheath purplish red and globular. Late midseason. Dwarf.

Haku-unkaku

Medium size. Sheath light purplish red and globular. Late midseason.


Mikunino-hata

Medium size. Sheath purplish red and globular. Late.

Mikunino-akebono

Small size. Sheath purplish red and globular. Late. This variety arose from bud-mutation in Mikunino-hata.


Shimane-Hakugan

Medium size. Stigmas and sheath dark reddish purple. Midseason. Tall and vigorous.

Kenshunmon

Milky white. Large size. Stigmas and sheath white. Midseason. Rather tall.

Kansai Saidei

Milky white, flushed faint pink on opening. Purplish red Hares at base of petals Large size, Midseason. Tall


Niigata Otomenomai

Milky white. Base of flower flushed faint pink on opening. Long flares at base of petals. Large size, Midseason. Tall and vigorous.

Hamachidori

Milky white, flushed faint pink on opening. Small flares at base of petals. Small size. Midseason. Small plant.


Yaso-Okina

Milky white. Bases of petals Faint pink Large size. Late midseason.


Shin-Fusotsukasa

Milky white. Base of petals faint pink. Petals crinkled and waved. Large size. Late midseason.


Tamausagi

Base of flower light pink fading into white al the upper part of the petals. Small size. Midseason. Dwarf.

Yukidoro

Base of flower light pink fading into white at the upper part of the petals. Large size. Midseason. Growth spreading rather than tall.

Imayoo

Creamy white. Medium size. Late midseason. This creamy colour was prized before the appearance of bright yellow
