Red Flowers

Red flowers are arranged in order from deep red to light red. Somewhat similar flowers are shown side by side to facilitate distinguishing one from another.

Taiyo and the flowers following it are bright red. Flowers rimmed creamy-white begin with Nishikino-shitone. Kasanejishi and flowers following it are dark red. Kokijishi and flowers following it are on the purple side of red.

Taiyo

Medium size. When the bud begins to open, part of the petal protruding is deep pink. The sheath covering the ovaries is red and globular. Midseason flowering. Tall and vigorous.


Hoki

Medium size. The sheath covering the ovaries is red and globular. The red petal emerging from (the bud differs in colour from Taiyo). Midseason. Vigorous.


Kozan

Medium size. Ovaries are visible. Midseason. Tall and vigorous.



Senshumon

Medium size. Bright red and golden-yellow are well matched in this red flower. Midseason.

Hino-tsukasa

Medium size. Red globular sheath. No purplish line on the leafstalk. Dwarf. Midseason.

Inpumon

Medium size. Pale green ovaries. are exposed. Midseason. No purplish line on the leafstalk. Annual growth is short, jnd the plant is of low stature


Yoyono-homare

Medium size. Sheath red, globular. Midseason. Long leafstalks giving a sparse aspect. Weak grower.


Ouchihime

Small. Cup-shaped flower. Red globular sheath. Dwarf size, weak growth.

Orihime

Small. Cup-shaped flower. Outer 2-3 petals are rimmed creamy-white. Red globular sheath. Late midseason. Narrow leaflets. Dwarf size, weak growth


Kogyoku

Large size. Late midseason. Tall and vigorous.

Benikirin

Small. Late midseason. Broad leaflets



Hiodoshi

Small. Stigmas and shealh red Midseason.

Hino-tobira

Petals long and narrow, not clustered. This type of plant appears by bud mutation in a single branch. Medium size. Late midseason. Weak growth.


Shugyokuden

Upper parts of petals light red. Large. Early midseason. Narrow leaflets.


Asahi-minato

Red, a little lighter than Taiyo Large size. Midseason. No purplish line on leafstalk. Vigrous.


Yomeimon

Red, a little lighter than Taiyo. Medium size. Midseason. Sparse foliage. Vigorous,

Kagurajishi

After full bloom upper parts of petals show fading. Inner petals are asymmetrical (Shiihizaki). Medium size. Midseason. Leaflets long and waved. Vigorous.

Tamamidori

Red, a little lighter than Taiyo. Medium size. Midseason. Vigorous

Kansai Hatsu-hinode

The same colour as Tamamidori. Medium size. Red globular sheath. Midseason .

Hatsu-hinode

The same colour as Tamamidori. Medium size. White globular sheath. Midseason. Vigorous.


Hinode-sekai

The same colour as Tamamidori. Medium size. Green ovaries are exposed. Late midseason.

Miyono-hikari

After full bloom the upper parts of the petals show fading. Medium size. Midseason. Narrow leaflets.

Ankamon

A little light colour of red. Medium size. Early midseason. Vigorous.


Onmeimon

A little light colour of red. Small. Late midseason.


Ranzan

Upper parts of petals are shaded. Large size. Late midseason. Broad leaflets. Sparse foliage.

Light red Medium size. Sheath red and lobular. Midseason. Vigorous.

Red. Outer 2-4 petals rimmed with creamy-white. White vertical stripes appear occasionally on the outer 1-2 petals. Some flowers have no white edge or stripes. Medium size. Midseason. Red globular sheath. No purplish line on leafstalk.

Banzaimon

Red. Outer 2-3 petals rimmed creamy-white. White vertical stripes occasionally on outer 1 3 petals. Medium size. Midseason.


Shokko-nishiki

Red, lighter colour than Jitsugetsu-nishiki. Outer 2-3 petals rimmed creamy-white. Medium size. Midseason. Purplish vertical line on leafstalks.


Naniwa-nishiki

Red. Same colour as Tamamidori. Outer 2 3 petals rimmed creamy- white. Sometimes blooms without creamy-white rim. Medium size. Midseason. Vigorous.


Kokonoe-nishiki


A little light colour of red. Outer 2 3 petals are rimmed with creamy-white Small size. Late midseason.

Azuma-shibori

Light red. After full bloom upper parts of petals fade lighter. Small white stripes at top of outer 1 3 petals. Medium size. Midseason.


Kasane-jishi

Darkish red. Large size. Midseason. Vigorous.


Azuma-kagami

Darkish red. Small size. Late midseason. Dwarf and weak growth

Kinkaden

Darkish red. Medium size. Midseason. Dwarf.

Shin-Kikubotan

Darkish red. Small size. Midseason. Large leaflets

Imashojo

Red on the dark side. The difference in colour cannot he seen without putting this flower and Taiyo together. Inner petals spoon-shaped. Medium size. Midseason. Leaflets narrow and pendulous.

Darkish red. The largest and full double amongst red Japanese tree peonies. Large size. Midseason.

Kenreimon

Darkish purple-red, purplish black flares at base of petals. Inside petals frilled giving the flower a particular shape amongst Japanese tree peonies. Large size. Midseason. Lony leafstalks. Sparse foliage.

Kao

Purplish red. Upper parts of petals turn reddish purple with age. Full double, its pistil hardly visible, yet flowers held erect. On weak branches degree of doubleness is less. Giant size. Late midseason. Vigorous.

Koikagura

Purplish red. After full bloom upper parts of petals are somewhat faded. Inner petals small and asymmetrical. Medium size Early midseason. Sparse foliage.

Taishono-hikari

Purplish red. After full bloom upper parts of petals fade quickly. The flower turns whitish red. Medium size. Midseason. Long leaflets.
