13.03.2006 Dear group members, I have closed the poll on Yahoo-groups after the 4^th day, as since two days there were no new votes, and I didn't want to remind and advertise for voting. The result was as I have expected it. Thanls for everybody who took part and gave his voting.

05.03.2006 Das Buch ist schon wieder ausverkauft! Es wird aber vielleicht Nachschub geben, ich nehme Bestellungen entgegen.

03.03.2006 Das neue Buch ist da! Prof. Cheng Fangyun hat Wort gehalten und mir 10 Exemplare des neuen Buches geschickt.

Es ist genauso groß wie das von Prof. Wang bzw. Cheng Fangyun's Buch, hat excellente Bilder und bringt enorm viel Neues. Ich bin ganz hingerissen.

Für alle, die es haben wollen: es kostet 59 Euro + Versand, es wiegt 1265g, geht also nicht mehr als Büchersendung im Umschlag, sondern muß als Päckchen.

Ab 2 Büchern als Paket.

Das Buch von Cheng Fangyun in Chinesisch ist auch noch vorrätig. Einzeln für 39 Euro, beim Kauf von beiden zusammen gebe ich 10 Euro Rabatt.

I finally got my first copy of the new tree peony book from Prof. Li. This is the second chapter to the first book "The Chinese Tree Peony", edited by Prof. Wang.

The first book was translated with the help of Will McLewin from the U.K., and was at that time (1997) a milestone for the understanding of chinese peony culture for westerners, because it gave for the first time a deeper insight into this topic in english language.

As Prof. Wang's volume dealt with the Central Plains cultivar group, this second volume deals the other 3 of the 4 major chinese cultivar groups:

the North-West (in other words, Gansu-mudan or Paeonia rockii-hybrids)

the South-West

the Southern-Yangtse (for warmer and wetter climates)

and besides these major cultivar groups, three previously less known, the Yan'an (from Sichuan and Yunnan), the Exi (with Paeonia qiui) and the Cold Area Tree peony group (form the cold North-East).

The book has a very high knowledge level, everybody will be able to learn a lot about tree peonies, cultivation techniques, breeding, etc. The print quality and the pictures are excellent.

01.03.2006 Einige statistische Zahlen aus der Datenbank: Anzahl von Namen im Verzeichnis: 11584, davon als Einzeldatei erfaßt: 9460. Das heißt, 22,5% der Namen sind auch mit einer Übersetzung, einem Synonym oder abweichenden Schreibweise erfaßt, aber nicht mit einer extra Datei bedacht.

Anzahl der Arten mit Bildern: 4041 (entweder sind ca. 200 doppelt vorhanden)
