BURMA RUBY (Glasscock, 1951) - Single - Bright Red - Very Early. Medium height. Very bright red with a little purple which gives it extra brilliance. Albiflora x officinalis Sunbeam. Bulletin 122.

Burma Ruby (Glasscock 1951) Midseason. Best Landscaper Single, bright red petals around a cluster of reddish anthers, contributing an unusual tone at center. Low medium, sturdy bush, excellent in the landscape. Presumed triploid, but useable fertility; reported seed parent of ‘America’ and ‘Burma Midnight’. Gold Medal 1951. Limited Supply. Item 1818

Exotic, shocking red single. Tulip-shaped buds have enticing fragrance, while poppy red blooms burst forth in spring like exotic jungle birds in green foliage.

Comments: Winner of the American Peony Society Gold Medal in 1985. Several shades lighter than its offspring Burma Midnight, it is the centre of this peony I find striking. The filaments are deep red and edged with gold.
